Free class week came into fruition as a result of community conversations between local dance educators and DanceATL. In DanceATL’s Annual Survey, many responses emphasized a need for more affordable dance class opportunities.


Class Descriptions

Contemporary Floorwork with Leo Briggs at DSOB-Sams St (Tuesday 12-1:30PM)
This class is designed for intermediate and advanced movers. We will focus on finding weight, momentum, and rebound in the floor. The class will begin with a guided warm-up, then progress to more combinations of movements on the floor. The class will end with a long phrase that builds on the principles in the class.


Adult Tap with Shelly Kennealy at TNB-Ormewood (Tuesday 7:30-8:30PM)
Tap dance sharpens reflexes and improves memory skills and coordination. Beginning classes will work toward establishing fundamental tap movements, vocabulary and will work on basic rhythms and steps that progress into fun and lively dance combinations.


Beginner Hip Hop with Aaron at TADA (Wednesday 7:30-8:30PM)
This class consists of breaking down the elements of hip-hop within choreography. The styles incorporated are popping, locking, waving, breaking, and gliding. The class starts off with a guided warm up by stretching out the body and using isolations. After you’re warm, you’ll learn a new piece of choreography that you can aim to perfect by the end of class. Each class offers new combinations, amazing music, and tons of fun! Please know that we do not allow street shoes in some of the studios- so please bring a pair of dance sneakers or be prepared to dance in barefeet or socks if needed.

Modus Technique with Jillian Mitchell/Kit Modus at DSOB-Sams St (Friday 10:10-11:40AM)
Reframe your technique with Modus. Our distinctive training style seamlessly integrates classical and contemporary movement, empowers maximum physicality, challenges the mind, and ignites creativity + musicality. Modus redefines ballet.


Manifestation Through Movement with Zara Estelle at Metropolitan Studios (Sunday 1:30-2:30PM)
This class is designed to connect the mind, body and soul. Bring in and create good energy, set your intentions, visualize what you want to manifest for yourself and let go of any negativity you have pent up. Learn slow and sultry burlesque with a twist on classic choreography. This class specifically will teach you the fundamentals of burlesque and have you leaving class loving your body and ready to show off your new moves and take on whatever life throws at you. This class is great for self care and is a positive motivator.
What to Bring: Dance/character shoes or strapped toe shoes with a 2-3 inch heel, Other acceptable footwear include: jazz flats, salsa shoes or barefoot, Water.

Beginner Ballet with Kara Jacobson at TADA (Tuesday 5:30-6:30PM)
Did you take Ballet when you were younger? Know the basics and want to get back into it? Join us in a judgement free zone and find your inner ballerina/danseur spirit! Learn the fundamentals of classical ballet. Class will focus on basic ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology and musicality. Students will be introduced to floor work, barre, center, and across the floor work.

All Out Pro Jazz with Alexis at Divine Dance Studio (Tuesday 8-9PM)
A great class for anyone interested in the pro-style of jazz dance, such as NFL or NBA.


Adult Modern with Jessi Scopp McGrath at Callanwolde (Wednesday 6-7PM)
With an anatomically sound approach to technique, this class flows from floor to standing and culminates in musically driven, lovely phrases.


Dance Party! Fitness at TNB-Ormewood (Wednesday 7:30-8:30PM)
Dance Party is a fun workout class that requires no dance training. It is designed to get your endorphins going and to find joy in movement. Wear comfortable clothes and come ready to move!


Intermediate Tap with Pam C at TADA (Thursday 5:15-6:15PM)
Get on your feet and make some noise! This beginner/int beginner level class will focus on exploring musicality, rhythm, and syncopation. Students explore the fundamental steps of tap dance, learn tap terminology and develop the ability to maintain correct body placement. Shoes: Must be non-marking tap shoes.

Cherish Dance Open Class with René Nesbit at En Pointe School of Dance (Friday 6-8PM)
Class includes a full stretch, a few exciting across-the-floor patterns, and a combo from company repertoire. Optional Company Audition

Liquid Motion® with Roula Roulette at Metropolitan Studios (Sunday 12-1:15PM)
Our approach is to make accessible to the masses – we don’t just “roll around on the floor.”  Liquid Motion classes will challenge you both physically and mentally in ways traditional floor work and sensual movement classes never have. The end result is breathtaking and life changing. Liquid Motion is recognized around the world for its seamless, organic and hypnotic quality of movement.

Our Liquid Motion instructor will use dance theory, natural organic movement  and the Liquid Motion techniques and fundamentals to build a proper foundation for floor work. Students will be led through a 15-20 min full body warm up involving cardiovascular work, full body conditioning, and mobility exercises. The bulk of the class will take you through intricate floor flows and across the floor drills. The class will end with time for each student to explore their new found skills, and then a proper cool down and recovery to close out the Liquid Motion experience.

Liquid Motion is an all inclusive, gender-neutral class that is designed for everyone! Our Liquid Motion instructors are trained to be able to quickly modify any move or skill to be more challenging or easier depending on student needs.
WHAT TO BRING: Kneepads, Layers (Arms and legs should be covered, but you should wear something underneath so clothing can be removed as needed for movement), Socks are recommended, Pen & notepad to take notes, An open heart and an open mind.

Intermediate Jazz with Tim at TADA (Tuesday 6:30-7:30PM)
Start with a set warm-up that consists of basic stretching, isolations, pliés, tendus and ends with core strength exercises. The rest of the class is spent learning an upbeat jazz combination that is full of high energy and quick sharp movements! This is an intermediate level class not suitable for beginners.

Contemporary Modern Technique with Kristin O’Neal at Core Dance (Wednesday 10-11:30AM)
We will warm our way from the floor activating a strong core and sturdy base towards verticality while exploring every inch of space along the way– this involves sliding/gliding, folding/creasing, a juicy relationship with the floor, connection to our breath, discovery of weight and weightlessness, swinging, pouring, falling, flying and anything else that may inspire us on the way…and always, musicality! ​Geared for the intermediate to professional mover who enjoys deepening and clarifying alignment/technique through somatic lenses.

Broadway Jazz with Grace at TADA (Thursday 6:15-7:15PM)
This open level high energy jazz class will not only hone your technique and lines, but will inspire the Broadway star in you. Class includes a warm up, across the floor work and each class will focus on choreography from the best of Broadway. Join us as we experience Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Michael Bennett and more.

Beginner Heels with Patsy Collins at TNB-Ormewood (Saturday 7-8:30PM)


Horizon Body with Sean Nguyen-Hilton at The Windmill (Sunday 11AM-12:15PM)
Horizon Body is a rhizomatic movement practice that holds space for bodies to experience new versions of themselves.

During the 75 minute practice, you will be invited to embody modes of moving, initiated by prompts from Sean Nguyen-Hilton, that centers the body as a site of possibility. Though the time and space of Horizon Body isn’t fully prescribed, it has the potential to be a healing, connecting, and grounding experience.


All Levels Guided Movement Practice with Sammy Spriggs at Dance Foundry (Sunday 2-3:30PM)
Open to all movers, this Guided Movement Practice will incorporate breath-work, guided improvisational movement, and feel-good movement pattern offerings that each participant can make their own by following their comfort and individual impulses. This is a safe space for every human to move and exist freely as themselves.


Burlesque Basics at Metropolitan Studios (Sunday 3-4PM)
Learn Burlesque Basics with the critically celebrated and award-winning teachers of The Atlanta School of Burlesque! Take a tour of the burlesque studio and learn about Burlesque Legends, The Burlesque Hall of Fame, and some notable points in Burlesque history. Then, move into the classroom where our instructors will review fundamental Burlesque movement and walks which culminate in a short routine. No experience required and all bodies and skill levels are welcome!
