Start your Fall off right with a week of free dance classes hosted by DanceATL in partnership with several local studios, organizations and teachers.

Free class week came into fruition as a result of community conversations between local dance educators and DanceATL. In DanceATL’s Annual Survey, many responses emphasized a need for more affordable dance class opportunities. Our first Free Class Week in January 2023 was a huge success with 30+ free classes offered across the Metro-Atlanta Area!


Class Descriptions

Monday

Beginner Contemporary Ballet with Zara Estelle
12-1pm at Metropolitan Studios

PRE-REGISTER with Code: DanceATL
This class is a perfect introduction to ballet in a non-competitive and fun environment. It is a great way to continue to refine technique for those who may have taken classes before. Exercises are aimed at conditioning the body for dance and focus on proper alignment, core strength, leg strength, balance, and flexibility. Wear something you are comfortable moving in and that is stretchy, ballet slippers or socks are welcome.


Beginner Hip-Hop with Nia
6-7pm at TADA- The Atlanta Dance Academy

PRE-REGISTER
This class consists of breaking down the elements of hip-hop within choreography. The styles incorporated are popping, locking, waving, breaking, and gliding. The class starts off with a guided warm up by stretching out the body and using isolations. After you’re warm, you’ll learn a new piece of choreography that you can aim to perfect by the end of class. Each class offers new combinations, amazing music, and tons of fun! Please know that we do not allow street shoes in some of the studios- so please bring a pair of dance sneakers or be prepared to dance in barefeet or socks if needed.


Dance Foundry Adult Ballet with Sammy Spriggs
7-8pm at Dance Foundry

Open to all levels, this class meets adult dancers where they are, to have a fun and fulfilling time moving through a classical ballet class. This is a low-pressure, adult learning environment.


Manifestation Through Movement with Zara Estelle
7-8pm at Metropolitan Studios

PRE-REGISTER with Code: DanceATL
This class is designed to connect the mind, body and soul. Bring in and create good energy, set your intentions, visualize what you want to manifest for yourself and let go of any negativity you have pent up. Learn slow and sultry burlesque with a twist on classic choreography. This class specifically will teach you the fundamentals of burlesque and have you leaving class loving your body and ready to show off your new moves and take on whatever life throws at you. This class is great for self care and is a positive motivator.


Modern with Corian Ellisor

Choreography Hip-Hop with Paige

Tuesday

Modern/Contemporary with Caroline Alcott
10-11:30am at Decatur School of Ballet- Sams St

This class will act as an informal audition/information session for modern/contemporary dancers led by dance artist Caroline Alcott as she prepares to embark on the building of a new work.The  class will include aspects such as floor work, improvisation, and glimpses of set phrase material. You’re encouraged to come join the class even If you’re not currently looking to be involved in a creative process! No pre-registration required. 


Movement Arts Atlanta Adult Ballet

Adult Ballet is a beginning ballet class for adults that includes gentle stretching and strength exercises in addition to basic ballet vocabulary. It is a great basic class for the absolute beginner or a dancer returning to the classroom.

Beginner Tap with Pam
4:45-5:45pm at TADA- The Atlanta Dance Academy

PRE-REGISTER
Get on your feet and make some noise! This beginner level class will focus on exploring musicality, rhythm, and syncopation. Students explore the fundamental steps of tap dance, learn tap terminology and develop the ability to maintain correct body placement. Shoes: Must be non-marking tap shoes.

Beg/Int Tap with Pam
5:45-6:45pm at TADA- The Atlanta Dance Academy

PRE-REGISTER

Beginner Ballet with Kara

PRE-REGISTER
Beginning Ballet – This class is suitable for students with zero to little ballet training. The class will introduce basic movement vocabulary and French terminology as well as safe stretching techniques and practices. Students will learn positions of the feet, arms, and begin fundamental barre and center work. Like all of our open classes, this class is subject to the needs of the overall attendees of each class. This class meets once a week.

Embodying the Void: Butoh Transformation Workshop with Frankie Mulinix (Vandellous)
7-8:30pm at Little 5 Points Community Center

PRE-REGISTER
Ignite your power and expand your movement vocabulary with this free workshop. Explore the wisdom of your body through breath, presence, imagery, sensation, and movement.

This workshop is ideal for anyone with a body, including artists and performers of all backgrounds.

This yoga class practices a deep and abiding acceptance of your body, mind, and spirit. You will utilize alignment-based, all levels yoga, combined with positive affirmations and respect to your anatomy to pull yourself into a stronger, more sensual sense of self!

Romantic Movement with Rocket

The intent of this class will be to explore intuitive movement in a collaborative setting. You will connect with your passion for dance, discovering what your language of love looks like out loud! Whether you’re just starting, experienced, or coming home to a devotion for movement this is the class for you. Join us for an exploration of contemporary and rhythmic techniques.


Wednesday

Full Radius Dance Open Class
9-10:15am at Dance Foundry

Historically, dance training has assumed a set of norms, paradigms, and aesthetics applicable only to people without disabilities. Full Radius Dance has created a methodology of rigorous dance training that serves both disabled and non-disabled dancers. All bodies are welcome. 


Pop Pilates with Jess

Contemporary with Jacque Pritz
10-11:30am at Decatur School of Ballet- Church St

With an emphasis on floorwork, this contemporary dance class will explore bodies rising, falling, folding/bending, and lengthening. An introduction to beginner partnering and improvisation will also be included. Dancers are encouraged to bring layers or knee pads, but not required.


REMIX with John Crawford
5:30-7:30pm at Fulton County Public Art Futures Lab

PRE-REGISTER
Remix with John Crawford is a unique opportunity for dancers and choreographers to explore how creating “in the moment” with live real-time video can enhance your performance practice. Through demonstrations, discussion and experiential exercises, this workshop introduces ways to connect body-centered performative practices with techniques for embodied human-computer interaction and real-time video processing, drawing on insights gained from Prof. Crawford’s many years of research and collaborative exploration in dance, music and theatre performance.

The Remix workshop will be of particular interest to dancers, choreographers, musicians, composers, scenic and lighting designers, directors, actors, visual artists, animators, filmmakers, interface designers, computer scientists, engineers, architects, and anyone intrigued by issues of embodiment, technology and interactive experience.

Sexify™ Signature is a one-of-a-kind dance experience in an affirming and welcoming environment! Learn dance movements that add hot tricks to your bag. This dance class brings a sense of a collective experience and support for your journey through your body; one that embodies the true essence of who you are. We know all bodies are different and hold space for that. We believe that all bodies are good bodies. This class is typically done to one song, so you can get the choreography and musicality. Open to all levels, no experience required.


Int/Adv Hip-Hop with Aaron

PRE-REGISTER
Giving you the elements you need to perform on stage, this class will help to bring your dancing skills and abilities to a higher level while working on choreography, musicality, and your ability to perform. This class will clean your movements, correct bad habits, all while learning fun and energetic routines. Please know that we do not allow street shoes in our studios, so please bring your dance sneakers or dance in socks.

This class is designed to help enhance your overall performance and provide a deeper understanding of your body’s connectivity. In this class you will work on engaging your core, stretching your muscles and introducing exercises to help increase your flexibility. The benefits of stretching exercises are endless; they help in injury prevention and healing, provide better muscle coordination, improved posture, enhance performance, an increased range of motion, and overall greater mental health.


Contemporary with Christina

Discover your passion for contemporary dance! This class will focus on developing a strong technical base through various warm up exercises, each leading up to a final class combination. There, you’ll have an opportunity to explore different movement dynamics and textures to find your unique individual expression. We will play with musicality, imagery, somatic research, physicality, and improvisation, all while experiencing the joy of dance! This is an intermediate level class.

Contemporary Modern Technique with Kristin O’Neal
10-11:30am at CORE Dance

Geared for the intermediate to professional mover who enjoys deepening and clarifying alignment/technique through somatic lenses, we will warm our way from the floor investigating our bodies’ nuances that morning considering the weight of our bones to activate deep core muscles.  Solo Contact Improvisation concepts will invite ease and efficiency while conditioning thoughtfully, readying the body for a myriad of delightful possibilities that contemporary modern dance asks of us.  We will consider all surfaces of our bodies in contact with the floor, noticing anchor points of stability to find freedom of movement in our joints and in space while sliding, swinging, floating, falling, pouring, gliding and all the things that inspire us along the way.

Multi-Age Modern is a class for students 8 through adult. It is a beginning class that introduces the basic structure and vocabulary of modern dance. Stretching, strengthening and gross motor movement work is infused with concepts such as suspension/release and improvisation.


Int/Adv Jazz with Tim

PRE-REGISTER
This jazz class begins with an extended warm-up focusing on stretching, core strengthening, and upper body strength exercises. You’ll go across the floor to fine tune your technique, and will break down the mechanical function of pirouettes, battements and other common dance moves. The class will end with an upbeat fun, energetic combination that will leave you wanting more! This is an intermediate level class.

Synergetic Flow with Bleu Pearl

Ready to learn a fun and exhilarating way to dance? Synergetic Flow focuses on using the chair as a prop as you learn sensual movements that show off your best assets in and around the chair. Learning to connect and flow with every movement. Boost your confidence in this high energy hour of chair dancing. This class starts with a warm up focusing on flexibility and some stability work with core strength.


Burlesque Basics with Golden Mystique
3-4pm at Metropolitan Studios

Learn Burlesque Basics with the critically celebrated and award-winning teachers at The Atlanta School of Burlesque! Take a tour of the burlesque studio and learn about Burlesque Legends, The Burlesque Hall of Fame, and some notable points in Burlesque history. Then, move into the classroom where our instructors will review fundamental Burlesque movement and walks which culminate in a short routine. No experience required and all bodies and skill levels are welcome!
