An evening of all women choreographers highlights this year’s dance concert!

Ballet Mistress Anna Dunn and Assistant Director of After-School Ballet, Angela Harris collaborate on The Firebird, this famous ballet from the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, was written for the 1910 Paris season of Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballet Russe Company. This updated version features narration by the famous ballerina Natalia Makarova.

Another historical piece, from the archives of the National Labanotation Bureau, is choreographed by modern dance pioneer, Helen Tamiris. Much of her known works deal with social issues like racism and war; Negro Spirituals, was created between 1928 and 1942. Bridget Roosa, director of the Agnes Scott Dance Department and Labanotation expert has reconstructed the work.

Fellowship; an exciting new work, was created by 2007 DSA graduate and Broadway artist Shonica Gooden. Conga Blue with music by Pancho Sanchez highlights a new tap piece choreographed by Birda Ringstad and finally, an evening of strong triumphant women would not be complete without a jazz piece from Marci Lefkoff.
