The Distaff Series is a collection of five films produced by Britt Whitmoyer Fishel, through Atlanta Dance Collective, sponsored in part by The B Complex gallery.
The films examine sexual objectification and animalization of women in our everyday language, as well as through literature and advertising, while surveying the impact it has on the behavior of our culture. The work explores intersectional feminism through behavior mechanisms, in both our past and present societal patterns, while questioning changes, or disruptions that can break these patterns in the future.
There is this innate dependency that we have on other people; an inherent trust. When that is broken, when safety becomes compromised, and moral conduct becomes indecent, what happens to us, how do we navigate, how do we survive?
