Join us on November 1st at the Windmill at the start of guest artist Stewart/Owen Dance’s residency with Atlanta Dance Collective. Stewart/Owen Dance will be setting an original work on Atlanta Dance Collective for their fifth season of performances in January 2020 and we plan to share their unique style and technique with the Atlanta dance community through this open class. Class is $15 cash/card. Purchase online in advance or at the door. Read a little about them and their class below:

Vanessa Owen and Gavin Stewart are the co-founders of the Asheville, NC based Stewart/Owen Dance, where they co-produce dance, music, and film.  Their collaborations have been presented in many festivals across the East and West coasts including the McCallum Theatre Choreography Festival, CHOP SHOP Dance Festival, North Carolina Dance Festival, Dance Gallery NYC, Charlotte Dance Festival, and the 2019 Women in Dance Conference.  They won the Audience Choice Award at the 2018 Dance Gallery in NYC and are returning to the festival as Level UP Artists for 2019.  Vanessa and Gavin have created and re-staged their work on Bellingham Repertory Dance, Stavna Ballet, and Company E.  As artists with Company E, they worked through the U.S. State Department touring as Cultural Ambassadors. These tours took them to Kazakhstan, Sweden, Turkmenistan, England, Russia, Cuba, Israel, Palestine, Azerbaijan, China, Uruguay, and the Republic of Georgia where they taught and choreographed contemporary dance.  Their work abroad has influenced Gavin and Vanessa to view dance as a universal language that can connect people across different cultures and beliefs, and they use this as a driving force in their collaborations.  Stewart/Owen Dance hosts the summer project, DELVE, in Asheville, NC.  DELVE brings together and employs professional dance artists and choreographers for 2 weeks of creativity and collaboration.

We call our class Body Mapping.  Class begins with an improvisation based warm up where the dancers are guided through their own movement research focused toward sending and receiving sensation.  Class then transitions these tools into technical exercises and culminates in repertory phrase-work.
