Event Details

Ribbon Dance of Empowerment: Chinese Dance through the Eyes of an American showcases the beauty and diversity of Chinese dance, history, and culture while sharing a rarely told story about some of the nearly 100 American dancers who bring them to life on stage. Intertwining personal storytelling with Chinese dance, it culminates in an original mini dance drama based on Co-Artistic Director Kerry Lee’s personal story – how performing the Chinese ribbon dance hundreds of times has empowered her in her search for identity, belonging, and self-acceptance as a Chinese American in the South.

Saturday, October 19 at 7:30pm
Sunday, October 20 at 2:00pm

Atlanta Chinese Dance Company’s Ribbon Dance of Empowerment is supported in part by awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and Georgia Council for the Arts. Additionally, the mini dance drama is supported by an Alternate ROOTS Artistic Assistance Project Development award (made possible by funds from The Nathan Cummings Foundation, The Ford Foundation, the Surdna Foundation, and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation).
