Event Details

Dance Foundry opens the performance with “La Boutique Fantasque”. Our version is inspired by the original ballet choreographed by Leonide Massine, music composed by Ottorino Respighi based on piano pieces of Gioachino Rossini.

The one-act ballet is set in 1860 in a magical toy boutique in France. When two families out on their shopping excursion, enter the boutique, they are amazed with the shop’s mechanical doll collection. The last dolls to perform for the families are the Can Can Dolls. Much to the Shopkeeper’s dismay, each family wants to purchase one of the Can Can dolls, separating the pair. They pay and are to return the following morning to pick up their doll. As Twilight falls on the Boutique, magic begins as the dolls come alive and devise a plan to rescue the pair, who are very much in love.

The second half of our program, will showcase contemporary pieces by Emory University faculty Tara Shepard Myers, Kristin O’Neal and Greg Catellier. The executive director of GRIOT Arts Incorporated, Rebekah Pleasant, and our resident faculty and Operations Manager of Dance ATL – Samantha Spriggs.
