An idea that has been nurtured for three years, each company aims to cross pollinate Atlanta dance enthusiasts by coupling adventure with their combined hunger for theatrical physicality. Fly on a Wall will reimagine their multi-layered and infectious Byte, by introducing new cast members to the piece. This 2015 work is a journey into the world of smarmy, honey-voiced radio hosts, gender-bending machismo, and reflects Fly’s astounding movement invention. Later Staibdance offers excerpts from 2016’s mulch-laden moat. In moat, Staib examines his personal immigration narrative and produces a work characterized by visceral emotion through abstracted history, while grappling with ideas surrounding human assimilation. Though each company offers unique inroads to dance, each likewise embrace spontaneity, sincerity and the value of community, without which dance could not exist.
