The Atlanta School of Burlesque has been providing burlesque education in the broader Metro Atlanta area since 2013. As an institution dedicated to burlesque education it is of the utmost importance that we provide our students access to the best instructors in our industry. Our “Weekend With . . . ” series of burleque weekenders does just that.

Our 3rd in the series brings What the Funk?! Fest from Seattle to Atlanta for weekend of classes, shows, and burlesque education that will blow your minds! What the Funk?! is and an all-BIPOC Burlesque Fest that was conceived of when founder, Mx. Pucks A’Plenty, considered doing a classic burlesque number to a Stevie Wonder song, but realized it wouldn’t count as a classic era song choice. This got their wheels turning and What the Funk?! was born.

Can ya dig it?! The story of bringing the 2019 festival to life is on film! Directed by Adriana Guiman, WHAT THE FUNK?! is the story of the first inaugural What the Funk?! BIPOC Burlesque Festival, held in Seattle Washington, over a three-day period in August 2019. Follow producer and founder Mx. Pucks A’Plenty as they explore what it means to rewrite the rules of burlesque to build a supportive community of performers for personal and professional development. See excerpts of live festival performances as well as intimate behind the scenes footage. Hear performers speak about the inspiration that drives their performances as well as lingering challenges to inclusivity and accessibility. Explore what it means to question cultural norms, utilize the body as an artistic medium, and live life on one’s own terms. Celebrate what it feels like to be part of this inspiring group of performers trailblazing an annual festival in Seattle. Starring Seattle legends Rebecca M. Davis (Co-producer of What the Funk Festival), Isaiah Esquire, Goddess Briq House, and Isabella Price.
