Event Details
The choreographic inspiration for Alice, Peter, & Dorothy is the result of a deep dive by Douglas Scott into the fantasy works Alice in Wonderland (1865) by Lewis Carroll, Peter and Wendy (1911) – often known as Peter Pan – by J. M. Barrie, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) by L. Frank Baum. Douglas and the dancers look at the novels through a disability-centric lens. What rhetoric is found in the novels that minimalizes and/or normalizes the visual or invisible mark of disability? For example, it has been strongly suggested that the Tin Man of Oz was a character influenced by Civil War amputees and Peter Pan’s Captain Hook is an amputee with a prosthesis. The presence of many fantastical creatures that are found within the novels (mermaids, the Mad Hatter, the residents of the Dainty China Country, et al) are representations of the ‘other’ who are living in a position of irreconcilable Otherness, and accepted in their fantasy world. However, in reality, they would be socially ostracized and viewed as perpetually incapable of belonging. The parallel to the lived experience of disability is striking.
Please note: This show is suitable for all ages but is not geared towards children as our work explores mature themes.
In an effort to keep our ticket prices affordable for our diverse audience members, we use a ‘Suggested Donation’ pricing structure. Please give what you can – it supports the dancers, the organization and our mission.

Event Details
Ballet 5:8, a Chicago-based female and minority-led premiere ballet company recognized for artistic excellence, innovation, technical precision and beauty is touring in Atlanta! Ballet 5:8 will present the World Premiere of BareFace at Kennesaw State University Dance Theater on Marietta Campus on Friday, March 24 at 7:30pm in celebration of Women’s History Month! Led by Artistic Director Julianna Rubio Slager, Ballet 5:8 creates original and dynamic ballet experiences drawing from life, faith, current events and diverse perspectives to tell relevant and relatable stories of the 21st century. You do not want to miss this one-night only spectacular show!
BareFace by Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director Julianna Rubio Slager is a full-length and daring new story ballet retelling the classic myth of Cupid and Psyche for the 21st-century audiences from a distinctively female perspective, ambitiously placing female athlete artists in all leading roles! Looking ahead to Earth Day, BareFace is one of the only ballets set in a future post-apocalyptic world featuring an impressive set design of 95% recycled materials while commenting on the issue of pollution.
Rubio Slager masterfully weaves the female perspective into the narrative with her bold and captivating new work, BareFace. Slager allows Psyche’s older sister to tell the audience why she cannot simply allow Cupid and Psyche to be happy, but instead convinces Psyche to dismiss Cupid’s one request. BareFace reimagines this classic Greek myth in a distant future realm, carrying forward the timeless nature of humanity while shedding the trappings of our modern age. Wrestling with the meaning of beauty and the perceived necessity of hiding the ugly truth that resides in human hearts, BareFace presents a haunting mirror to the human soul as it lays bare the elements of love, jealousy and what it means to be beautiful.
Set in the fictive world of Glome, audiences can expect to be gripped by the dynamic storytelling through the unparalleled athletic prowess of Ballet 5:8 dance artists. The production is brought to life by costume designer Lorianne Robertson, set designs by Graham Louthan and projections by Sarah L. Freeman.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for children. Specific college, senior and military ticket prices are also available.

Event Details
Every year in Seville, Spain, La Feria de Abril kicks off the spring season two weeks of entertainment, arts, music, food, and wine after an extravagant celebration of Easter in the same city. For several days, Seville residents and people visiting the city gather under glowing lights and in the twirls of flamenco skirts to mark the beginning of the season. People of all ages dance to live music performances of some of the songs most synonymous with Andalucía, including sevillianas, bulerías, and tangos flamencos. A Través is excited to partner again with Madrid Spanish Taverna to host the third-annual La Feria ATLANTA on April 22, 2023, starting at 3:00 p.m. and going on throughout the evening.
There will be dancing, singing, and cooking and plenty of VINO! during La Feria Roswell, with a grand event to celebrate this rite of spring in Spain and the two-year anniversary of Madrid Spanish Taverna in
Roswell, GA.
In 2023, we are modeling this giant gathering with festivities in the parking lot of Madrid Spanish Taverna. In this one-of-a-kind event in Georgia, flamenco lovers enjoy live performances, dance and singing classes, and demonstrations of how to prepare Spanish dishes and drinks, while top-rated Madrid Spanish Taverna provides the food and beverages to create the ambiance that makes this a unique expression of culture. In addition, the event offers an experiential educational opportunity, as flamenco is presented in the context of a typical Spanish celebration.
Tickets: $25 – $800

Event Details
Nose to the Rhinestone began as a social media accountability network that was created by Bazuka Joe. According to Bazuka Joe, #NoseToTheRhinestone* was “created in an effort to get folks motivated, and it served its purpose well at the time.” Now, you can search the hashtag on most social media channels and see the incredible work and dedication that many burlesque performers have chronicled with this hashtag. We have created this burlesque brunch show as a part of our Weekend With series to inspire Atlanta burlesque performers to put their noses to the rhinestone and create something that can then be peer reviewed by some of the best in our industry!
The show features performers who are provided act feedback by Po’Chop, instructors of The Atlanta School of Burlesque, and some of our performers from our Saturday night show, Disclosure: A Burlesque Experience.
Tickets include brunch and bottomless mimosas.
Brunch Menu – TBA

Lauda Musicam collaborates with Atlanta Historic Dance in this concert of early dance music. Dancing was an important part of society in the Renaissance and Baroque, creating a symbiotic re- lationship between dancers and musicians. Dance treatises left information about choreography and musical accompani- ment styles, both brought to life through this collaborative performance. A short audience dancing lesson will follow the concert. The concert is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
