Dance The Vote! 2020

DanceATL is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that supports various artists across the greater Atlanta community. The organization promotes individual artists, companies, and events, as well as provides resources and information on events occurring across the globe.

A Guide to Nonpartisan Voter Engagement

In 2004, Coca-Cola Artist in Residence Jawole Willa Jo Zollar of Urban Bush Women restaged “are we democracy?….we the people” at Emory. Our conversation with the original Emory Dance Company cast will address the relevance of the choreographic work today as we still fight racialized voter suppression. Registration required:

Thank you to everyone who attended our virtual ‘milonga’ on Monday! If you missed it and would like access to the recording, please email!

What is Dance the Vote?

DanceATL and National Water Dance are excited to collaborate with Jamē McCray’s  Dance the Vote, a week-long dance challenge illustrating your reason for voting, asking you to answer the question “What are you voting for”? We’re challenging you to get registered, committed, and ready to vote in this most important presidential election. Keep an eye on our social media as we share how you can participate, our reason for voting, and where to go to register to vote and look up your ballot information.

Participating is simple, here’s how it works:

  • Learn the shared movement phrase based on “I vote for our voices to be heard”
  • Add your movement based on “I vote for____”
  • Perform the shared movement phrase (and verbalize it or include it as a caption) along with your movement
  • Post it on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #DANCEtheVOTE and #DanceTheVoteATL
  • Tag your friends and challenge them to keep it going! Tag @danceatlanta and we will repost your video

Get up and #DANCEtheVOTE!
